Detailed Review
The DEWALT DWE6423 is a corded electric 5-inch random orbit sander designed for smoothing surfaces with precise control. Powered by a 3-Amp motor, it delivers variable speeds between 8,000 and 12,000 OPM. This range allows woodworkers and DIYers to dial in the right pace for fine finishing or rapid material removal.
Comfort and control are central to the tool design. A separate counterweight system minimizes operating vibration, while a shorter overall tool height keeps your hand closer to the workpiece. Rubber overmolding across the critical grip zones provides extra traction and handling stability as you guide the sander across surfaces.
Dust management is built directly into the housing and switch. An improved dust-sealed power switch keeps fine particles from entering internal components, supporting longer switch life. For cleanup, the tool features a one-handed locking dust bag and connects directly to DEWALT DWV010 or DWV012 dust extractors.
Keep in mind that this is a corded tool, meaning you need continuous access to a standard electrical outlet. Hooking the dust port to other vacuum systems using 1-1/4 inch hoses also requires a separate DWV9000 Universal Quick Connector, which is not built into the base unit.
Verdict: The DEWALT DWE6423 is a solid, user-friendly choice for anyone needing a dependable, low-vibration 5-inch sander with variable speed control. It is well suited for workshop projects that demand close control and effective dust containment.
