Detailed Review
The GreatStates 204-14 is a small manual push reel mower designed to trim grass without relying on fuel, oil, or electrical cords. Built for straightforward yard care, this model offers a planet-friendly mowing method suited for homeowners who want a clean, scissor-action cut without the hassle of routine engine maintenance.
Equipped with a 4-blade reel made from heat-treated alloy steel, the mower covers a 14-inch cutting width. The blades are engineered to stay sharp for years, and they can be sharpened when necessary to maintain their edge. Rolling on 8.5-inch polymer wheels, the lightweight design allows you to steer and maneuver around the yard with minimal effort.
Grass height can be customized using the adjustable blade settings, which span from 0.5 inches up to 1.75 inches. Because it operates entirely by hand, there is no need to store gas or perform oil changes, keeping regular upkeep low and operation simple.
Keep in mind that the manual 14-inch width means cutting larger spaces will require additional passes compared to wider equipment. Furthermore, the maximum cutting height tops out at 1.75 inches, so it is strictly intended for keeping turf trimmed relatively short.
Verdict: The GreatStates 204-14 is an excellent, low-maintenance option for anyone seeking an easy-to-use manual reel mower. It is ideal for shoppers who want a lightweight, gas-free tool that delivers a precise scissor-style cut.
