Detailed Review
The KNIPEX 87 01 250 Cobra Water Pump Pliers are 10-inch adjustable pliers built for gripping, holding, and turning fasteners or plumbing hardware. Designed to handle jobs on pipes, nuts, and various shapes up to 2 inches in capacity, they serve anyone needing a reliable, non-slip mechanical grip.
A standout feature is the push-button adjustment system, which provides 25 precise positions directly on the workpiece. Combined with specially hardened teeth rated at 61 HRC, the jaws lock onto pipes and nuts automatically. This self-locking action stops slipping during use and significantly reduces the hand pressure needed to maintain a solid hold.
For structural strength, the tool uses a box-joint design featuring a double guide for added stability under load. Safety is also addressed with an integrated pinch guard, which prevents the handles from closing completely on an operator's fingers during heavy squeezing.
Keep in mind that the maximum opening tops out at 2 inches, so larger plumbing fixtures will require a bigger tool. Additionally, the aggressive 61 HRC teeth are designed for strong mechanical grip rather than delicate surface protection.
Verdict: The KNIPEX Cobra 10-inch pliers are an exceptional choice for anyone working regularly with pipes and nuts. Their quick push-button adjustments, self-locking hold, and stable box-joint construction make them a dependable addition to any general tool setup.
