Detailed Review
The Coast XPH30R is a versatile USB-C rechargeable headlamp built for hands-free illumination during detailed work, outdoor tasks, or emergency situations. It bridges the gap between a wearable light and a task light, giving users multiple ways to direct brightness exactly where it is needed.
Versatility is at the core of this design. The optical system features a twist focus mechanism that adjusts between short-range flood and long-range focus without leaving dark spots or halos. For brightness, you get four distinct outputs: a 46-lumen low mode lasting up to 28 hours, a 160-lumen medium mode running for 10 hours, a 500-lumen high mode lasting 6.75 hours, and a 1200-lumen turbo mode for moments requiring maximum visibility.
Beyond standard headband use, the light body unclips from its mounting bracket to serve as a standalone handheld flashlight. A built-in magnetic base allows you to mount the detached light to metallic surfaces, making it easy to illuminate engine bays, breaker boxes, or metal shelving without wearing the head strap.
Regarding trade-offs, while runtimes are documented for low, medium, and high settings, the listing does not specify how long the 1200-lumen turbo mode can sustain continuous output before stepping down. Additionally, the drop protection is rated for up to 1 meter, and water resistance is certified at IP54, which handles splashes but not full water submersion.
Verdict: The Coast XPH30R is an excellent choice for mechanics, technicians, and outdoor enthusiasts who need adaptable lighting. Its focusable beam, magnetic mounting, and lifetime warranty make it a dependable workhorse for diverse tasks.
