Detailed Review
The PowerSmart 22-inch Walk Behind String Trimmer is a gas-powered wheeled trimmer built to clear tall grass, deep weeds, and brush across large properties. Combining the clearing capacity of heavy line with the mobility of a push mower, it offers a practical solution for properties where hand-held trimmers cause physical fatigue.
Powered by a 170cc 4-cycle OHV gas engine, this trimmer uses an easy-start ignition system with an auto choke mechanism. Its 22-inch cutting swath uses thick 0.155-inch trimming line to slice through stubborn brush. Maneuvering through rough terrain is supported by large 14-inch wheels, while the cutting height adjusts between 1.90 inches and 3.90 inches to suit varied yard conditions.
As a gas-fueled push unit, it will require routine engine upkeep such as spark plug maintenance using the included spark plug wrench. The trimmer is not self-propelled, so operating it on steep slopes or deep uneven ground requires physical pushing effort. Once yard work is completed, the handle folds down to save space during storage.
Verdict: The PowerSmart 22-inch String Trimmer is a solid, straightforward choice for homeowners managing overgrown lots or large yards with tough brush. If you need a wide cutting swath and the reliability of a 170cc 4-cycle gas engine without carrying a heavy shoulder trimmer, this unit fits the bill.
