BLACK+DECKER 20V MAX 12 Inch Weed Eater Cordless String Trimmer and Wheeled Edger Lawn Tool with Spool, 2.5Ah Battery and Charger Included, Lightweight, 2 Speed PowerDrive (LST522)

The BLACK+DECKER LST522 20V MAX 12 Inch Cordless String Trimmer and Wheeled Edger provides a dual-purpose cordless solution for lawn care along edges, paths, and borders. Designed for homeowners seeking string trimming and defined edge cutting without managing power cords, this tool combines a 12 inch cutting width with a wheeled edger design. Powered by an included 20V MAX lithium battery, it provides cordless line trimming across various yard layouts.

Key functional features focus on line feeding and motor performance. The built-in Automatic Feed Spool (AFS) system dispenses trimmer line during operation, eliminating the need to stop work to bump the head manually. To clear denser vegetation, the PowerDrive Transmission increases torque directly at the string. Operating speeds are controlled through a dual speed setting: higher power can be engaged for dense growth, while a lower speed setting preserves battery runtime for extended jobs.

Ergonomic features and conversion capabilities add flexibility. The unit converts from a horizontal string trimmer to a vertical wheeled edger, using the wheel to guide clean lines along driveways and sidewalks. Shaft height and auxiliary handle settings are adjustable to fit individual user preferences, supported by a micro-texture soft grip on the handle. The included 2.5Ah LBXR2520 lithium battery offers 66 percent more runtime than standard battery models and operates within the broader 20V MAX system.

Prospective buyers should note a few operational details. Because the set includes a single LBXR2520 battery and standard charger, larger projects may require owning extra 20V MAX batteries or waiting for the pack to recharge. The 12 inch cutting diameter is designed for general yard upkeep rather than wide field clearing. Additionally, effective operation depends on using compatible AFS spools and keeping the guard mounted.

Verdict: The BLACK+DECKER LST522 is a practical choice for homeowners wanting a lightweight, cordless trimmer and edger for routine lawn maintenance. Its dual speed control, automatic line feeding, and wheeled edger feature suit small to mid-sized yards utilizing the 20V MAX battery platform.

How to compare your options: Focus on battery runtime capacity, dual speed settings, line feed mechanisms, and edging features. A tool with integrated wheels for edging mode provides support along pavement compared to purely hand-held trimmers. Dual speed control allows you to trade battery efficiency for cutting torque when moving between light grass and thick growth. Standardize your choice around battery ecosystem compatibility and included spool features to ensure long term convenience.

Charge the included LBXR2520 20V MAX battery fully using the included charger before your initial yard work session, following the directions provided in the user manual. Mount the protective guard and ensure the AFS line spool is correctly seated before attaching the battery pack.

Select the lower speed setting for routine lawn trimming to maximize total battery runtime across larger areas. Switch to high speed power mode when encountering dense patches where extra torque at the cutting string is required.

Transform the head into vertical edging mode when trimming along driveways or paths, allowing the integrated wheel to guide straight cuts while carrying tool weight. Adjust the height and handle positions for a comfortable posture.

After finishing your lawn work, remove the battery, clear away trimmed grass clippings from the guard and spool housing, and check that the AFS line is ready for your next trimming task.
